WHAT
IS WISH?
The Workers
Institute for Safety and health is a non-profit worker centered
organization aimed at preventing work related deaths, injuries and
illnesses. WISH was founded in 2001 by a joint partnership of Saint
Louis University School of Public Health, University of Missouri
Outreach and Extension, and the Missouri AFL-CIO. WISH seeks to
accomplish its goals by developing partnerships with organized labor,
business, academic organizations, government and non-for profit
foundations that have an interest in worker health and safety issues.
WISH
MISSION
The
mission of WISH is to make workplaces healthier and safer for all
workers. This mission will be accomplished through:
- Education
and training
- Research,
particularly with public policy interests
- Promotion
of occupational safety and health as an environmental, human rights
and business issue.
WISH
ACTIVITIES
- WISH is focused
on education, research and promotion of occupational safety and
health.
- WISH has
received funding from the U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational
safety and health administration to develop ergonomic training
for workers, peer trainers, and supervisors in four industry groups.
(Metals, Residential Construction, Air Transportation and Healthcare).
- WISH founding
partners have organized an annual workers memorial health and
safety conference at Saint Louis University since 1999.
- WISH is funded
and supported by grants, donations and fee for service programs.
